Name Melissa NgAbout Current Projects: Costume Design - Sketchbook 11, with Collaboraction Theater Melissa is a freelance costume designer and costume assistant based in Chicago, IL. Past projects here include: Titus Andronicus, Urinetown and The Last 90 Minutes in the Life of Nikola Tesla, at the University of Chicago. Other recent Chicago-area work includes assisting designer Chelsea Warren on DCA Theater's summer production of Handel's Acis and Galatea. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Singapore, she moved to America three years ago to pursue a B.A in Theater and Performance Studies at the University of Chicago. She is interested in the relationship between culture and theater, and how one's place of origin affects their experiences in the theater. Melissa enjoys design projects that allow her to consider the place of culture and background in the theater, and also enjoys the highly collaborative process of designing for new work. She is passionate about the potential that costumes have to take on a performative quality, and the transformative power they give to character work. |
